Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease that is more common during the monsoon. It is caused by the dengue virus that is transmitted by female mosquitoes mainly of the species Aedes aegypti. Symptoms of dengue appear three to 15 days after the mosquito bite. These include high fever, severe headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin rash. If you have dengue fever, the most important thing is to boost your immunity. And the best way to improve your immune system is by eating foods that are loaded with essential nutrients and vitamins. A stronger immunity will ensure a speedy recovery. Dengue fever often leads to dehydration and so increasing your fluid intake is another important thing to speed up recovery. Consume warm water instead of normal water. Also, make it a point to consume food items that are easy to digest when you have dengue fever. Here are 5 foods that one should avoid during dengue fever.


Oily/Fried foods usually contain a high amount of fat which can cause high blood pressure and high cholesterol. This, in turn, can weaken the immune system, slow down recovery.


Spicy Foods are a big no, if you have dengue fever. Spicy foods are acidic in nature and when the acid gets collected in the stomach, it can damage the wall and lead to ulcers. While your body tries to fight all these illnesses at the same time, dengue recovery process may get delayed.


Caffeinated drinks can lead to dehydration, rapid heart rate, fatigue, caffeine crashes, and muscle breakdown. And so, dengue patients must avoid such drinks .


Avoid Non-vegetarian food: It is always better to have easily digestible foods when you have dengue. Non-vegetarian food like meat, dairy and eggs contain higher amounts of fats that any fruit or vegetable and thus take longer time to digest.


Alcohol is another unhealthy drink for dengue patients. Staying well hydrated is during dengue, but alcohol can dehydrate your body.
