Pakistani TV show – "Straight Talk With Mahesh Bhatt"
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt is going to don yet another hat – that of being a talk show host for a Pakistani TV show – " Straight Talk With Mahesh Bhatt." "I believe if we want to change the world, we should start listening to one another– just simple, normal conversation. Hear what people have to say without any pretense of problem solving," said Bhatt when asked what made him go across the border for a talk show.
He affirms his faith in the medium of communication as the one to bring about change, "Human conversation has been the most ancient tool to bring about a change, and to resolve conflicts. And simple human conversation always fascinates me," he said. In this fast moving world, the way two neighbours – India and Pakistan– interact with the world around but stay out of touch with one another is something that concerns Bhatt. "We (India and Pakistan) seek consolation in everything except one another. There's an urgent need to sit and talk. People have to decide whom to listen to and whom to ignore. For example, I just got to know that some people, like Raj Thackeray, are protesting against the participation of Nawazish Ali and Veena Malik in " Bigg Boss 4". And on the other hand, I read that after India, Pakistan got a huge round of applause at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games. That's how our civil society is," said Bhatt.
When we asked him what makes a talk show host a good host he said, "A host should start a simple heart-to-heart conversation. To begin at the point of not knowing is the fundamental requirement of a talk show. A host should begin from the point of ignorance and initiate a clean, non-combative simple talk." He added, "I am happy to be the ambassador from India to Pakistan and to be able to ask the movers and shakers of Islamabad 'How do I bring peace between India and Pakistan?" When asked who his favourite talk show host is, he replied, "Rajiv Mehrotra of Doordarshan was great."
