Default I am more like a guy! Supriya Kumari (lead of Bairi Piya)

Supriya Kumari likes being herself and believes in treating everyone on par. She played the lead of Bairi Piya and now that the show is off-air we caught the star to know more about her connect with the show and her future plans.

You were working for 12 hours a day and now the show is off-air what do you plan to do in your free time?
The show has just got over and I am busy attending meetings. So, I can't say I am free now. I have just signed up Aahat which and there are so many ad films I will be shooting for and once I am done with them I will be going to Ranchi. For the past two years I had not been doing any ads but now I have time to do it. So, lots of work for me.
But, Bairi Piya was really special and I am feeling bad it’s gone off air. I am going to miss it a lot especially because I have worked for 20 hours and at times even stayed back for almost a week.

This has now become a trend of stars asked to work for more than the stipulated 12 hour days. Don't you think it's unfair?
Well it's not the fault of the production team because if we do not work round the clock we will never complete the episodes and meet telecast deadlines. And it’s not just one person working on the show it's the entire cast and crew working hard together. If you had to be working all alone probably one could feel bad too but that's not the case.

But don't you feel we should have more of bi-weeklies than daily shows?
When dish TV came in, Sony and other channels had just 12 hours of shows. But then people felt why buy a dish if we can't have 24 hours of programming so it turned into 24. There are people who work, eat and practically live TV, we need to give them what they want.
There is a huge demand for television shows. If you have checked on the Net 60,000 people have requested to not take Bairi Piya off-air. This is just an example of one show but different people like different shows on different channels. We need to keep it going for them.

Who are you going to miss from the show?
I am such a girl who would go around talking to everyone and making friends all the time. So, you should ask me who is it I won’t miss because I am going to miss them all! I was attached to everyone be it the cameraman, my hairdresser, spot people, everyone.

Will you be looking forward to new roles? Is there anyone you want to work with?
I was very fond of these art movies ever since I was a kid and I loved watching Nandita Das, Supriya Pathak, Shabana Azmi. I always wanted to act like them but I think they are too good and I doubt if I will ever be like them. I feel we can have a role model but we obviously cannot be exactly like them. Like there are so many people who want to be like Amitabh Bachchan but there is only him!

Have you ever met any crazy fans?
I have many fans. In fact a lot of them are from Canada and call me up. But, luckily I have never had a bad fan encounter. My fans have come to my sets at times they have spoken well to me and left.

How has your journey in the industry been till date?
It's been good for when I initially came to Mumbai I started giving auditions and from there I got my first Times of India ad. They say good people attract good ones in return and I think that's what happened with me I went on meeting nice people and got lots of ads and then a parallel role in Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo and then Bairi Piya.
I won't say it has been a cake walk. I have worked hard too but touchwood work has always found me.

Are you dating anyone?
No. I am not dating anyone and haven't even thought about it. I think I am more like a guy. I don't really think like a typical girl and if I am dating someone everyone will know of it.

Anything for your fans?
I would like to thank everyone for supporting me all this while. I would like to also thank my parents and family for had it not been for them I would have never been known as Amoli. I feel even this little ‘thank you’ is not enough for what they have done for me and I can't put my feelings in words for them.
