Default A to Z : Dilip Joshi

Dilip Joshi, who celebrates his birthday today (May 26), has not had it easy in showbiz. The actor may be enjoying great fame with the hit show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah but there was a time when he worked for a meagre amount in theatre and made humble beginnings in Bollywood. A look at his professional life and its sucess which have led him to grow materially as well.

Passionate theatre artist

Dilip has done several Gujarati plays and confessed several times his love for theatre. In fact, he worked as a backstage artist for a long time and once revealed that he earned Rs 50 per role. It was a little amount but his passion for theatre fuelled him to keep going. (Photo: Instagram)

Humble beginnings

Dilip Joshi made humble beginnings in Bollywood. He began by working in Salman Khan and Bhagyashree starrer Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). He played the role of 'Ramu', who was a servant, in the movie. He then went on to star in films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Dil Hai Tumhaara among several others.

Struggle in television

Until Taarak Mehta came his way, Dilip struggled to make his mark on television. Before the sitcom, he was seen playing parts in shows like Kabhi Yeh Kabhi Woh, Kora Kagaz, Hum Sab Ek Hain, Shubh Mangal Savadhan, Aaj Ke Shrimaan Shrimati, Hum Sab Baraati, FIR among others. (Photo: Instagram)

Jobless for a year before Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah

Before making it big with Taarak Mehta, Dilip Joshi was jobless for a year. However, things changed after he took on Taarak where he is seen in the role of Jethalal Champaklal Gada. The actor is loved for his role and his one-liners. His dialogues and character have given him unprecedented fame. (Photo: Instagram)

Offered the role of Champaklal

Not many would know that Dilip Joshi was first offered to play the role of Bapu Ji aka Champaklal Gada in the sitcom but he felt he would be able to do better justice to the role of Jethalal. And the decision turned out to be right.

How much Dilip Joshi earns

Reportedly the actor earns Rs 1.5 lakh per episode. His net worth is estimated to be somewhere around Rs 43 crore as per media reports. He indeed has come a long way from the days when he'd earn little money for his work. (Photo: Instagram)

House and car collection

He may be living in Gokuldham society in the show, but reportedly Dilip owns a house worth Rs 5 crore in Mumbai. He also reportedly owns Audi Q7, Toyota Innova and Kia Sonet.
