Default Exclusive : Filmmakers ignore teenage issues

Udaan
Teenage is the most impressionable period of life. What one does, sees, or hears at that age leaves a mark on the rest of one's life. Very few filmmakers have attempted to delve into this subject except for a handful. Listed below are some of the good and bad teenage films in Bollywood. Some managed to create an impact while some simply failed.

Udaan: The one thing that most youngsters dream of, is to be free and to fly with no boundaries. Teenage is the most complicating and confusing period of life where one expects his elders to understand and support no matter what. 'Udaan' talks about the generation gap between an authoritarian father and a teenage son. It's important to acknowledge that everything is not white and black but shades of grey do exist. Forced to comply with his father's rules and the constant turmoil in his head, he finally decides to breaks free. Vikramaditya Motwani captured this very essence of a teenager in this fabulous film

Rockford
It's a transition from naivety to someone confident. Rockford talks about Rajesh Naidu and his first year in boarding school. He encounters bullies, cool seniors, great friends, a girlfriend, an idol and in the process finds himself and his inner strength. He learns to fight his own battles and win them too. The film talks about the complexities and the questions in a teenager's mind and answers them with utmost simplicity.

Mitr
The story revolves around a mother(Shobana) who feels estranged from her husband who is always busy with work and a teenage daughter who wants freedom and a life without her mother's constant nagging. The film touches on points of teenage aggression and frustration but from a parent's point of view. Living in the US of A for almost all her life the daughter follows a lifestyle very different from her mother; where post 16, its absolutely normal to move out, or to have live-in relationships etc. unlike in India. New to the whole idea, when Shobana tries to hold on to her child, she loses her even more. The film shows the rebellious nature of teenagers and the way their mind works once they feel they are independent.

Ek Chhoti Si Love Story:
The film is about an adolescent boy who fancies his 26 year old neighbour. His hobby to watch her through a telescope turns to infatuation as he begins to follow her movements closely. The film highlights the curiosity of *** in a youngster's mind. And the ways he finds to sort it. The film had created unnecessary hype to pull audiences to the theatres but it did not catch on

Bend It Like Bechkam
The story is about a Punjabi family residing in England and how they deal with a daughter whose ultimate goal in life is not to cook and clean for her supposed husband but to play soccer. The film is a mixture of comedy, family drama and romance. In spite of being light, the film focuses on the facts that sometimes it is essential to hear the other one out and give children a free reign to choose their own future. It shows that everyone has a potential to reach heights but a few can achieve them, family comes first but not at the cost of losing yourself and your identity.
