Default Biggest TV's Kahani Mein Twist

TV characters are a part of our lives and we find their stories sometimes incredible, and often they leave us incredulous, but they are always entertaining. Incidents in their lives affect us also, and the bahus of the K serials were loved by one and all, while few characters on the big screen would have

We run through the big events that changed the lives of the stars, and also those of their viewers.

Mihir's Death: A nation mourned when the first major twist happened in a serial. When Mihir died in Kyunki... people were in trauma.

Newspapers carried the event as a report, in the days when television was not staple for them. The incident happened when, after his marriage to Tulsi (Smriti Irani) Mihir (Amarr Upadhyay) leaves town on their first Karva Chauth. He dies in an accident and it took days for the serial to absorb the event, which also played on the mind of viewers for weeks.

Ultimately, the serial did what many serials would do later, bring a dead man back. In this case, the driver of the car was shown to be the man who actually died, and sacrificed in Mihir's stead.

Brand New Bani: Prachi Desai was the heart and soul of Kasamh Se. Her underage attractiveness was set off superbly against Jay Walia's (Ram Kapoor) masculine calmness. But when Prachi had to move to Bollywood an exit had to be staged for her. This happened through an accident, in which her face is burnt.

The genius plastic surgeon who is always at hand in serials did his business, and soon Bani was resurrected in the fetching form of Gurdeep Kohli. The new Bani lost her memory and found lots of trauma as she tried to find out who was behind the accident. Alas Gurdeep was not as big a hit as Prachi, and Prachi was not as big in Bollywood showing that sometimes we should just stick to the plot.

Parvati's Makeover: In Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, Parvati (Sakshi Tanwar) was the perfect bahu. She was just a little less popular than Tulsi, but also weighed a lot less and was more comely. This gave the opportunity for Ekta Kapoor to make her modern in one of the show's generational leaps.

Parvati turned Page 3 socialite to gasps in drawing rooms. She also handled the family business with aplomb, showing that her makeover was not limited to lipstick and sleeveless blouses. Parvati wore designer sarees made for her by Manish Malhotra and hers was a super change that was a hit.

Tulsi's Accident: Smriti Irani left Kyunki after six years, after squabbling with Ekta Kapoor, and she had to be despatched convincingly. So powerful was her character believed to be that many thought that her exit would end the show, but it didn't.

Gautami Kapoor was brought into the show as Tulsi. Sadly for her, Smriti made up with Ekta and had to be brought back because of her perceived popularity. And so she returned but then something had to be done to Gautami, and so she was turned into a vamp. In all this confusion, the show no longer remained the runaway hit that it was and soon after was taken off air. This went on to prove that individuals have a more limited role in the popularity of shows than is believed. And the myth of Tulsi maiyya was shattered.

Pratap's Death: Balika Vadhu became popular because of its sweet adolescent couples and nice-nice story line. Its audience was horrified when one of the babalog is ****ed on the show. And ****ed never to come back. Pratap, Sugna's beloved, is shot during a robbery. More sadness came the viewers way when the hapless Sugna, now pregnant, is cursed by her Dadisa for being responsible for this tragedy.

The episode showing this event was the most watched one of Balika Vadhu, showing that the big event, and the major trauma, in serials is going to stay with us.
