Default OMG Childhood Controversies of Bharti Singh

Surviving on salt and roti during her childhood to being inappropriately touched; Bharti Singh reveals shocking details about her early days

Comedian Bharti Singh recently shared some gripping details about her life. The actress-comedian, who recently appeared on Maniesh Paul’s podcast, made some huge revelations about her childhood days, living in poverty, surviving through the struggle and facing inappropriate behaviour in the industry. Here’s a sneak peek into the details she shared:

Bharti is a national level shooter and archer

During the one-on-one conversation, Bharti talked about being a national level rifle shooter and archer. Laughing off at the fact, she shared that now it feels like a joke that she was a shooter despite being a plump woman. Bharti competed at the national level 12 years ago and recalled that she got into college with a sports quota. (Pic: Instagram)

Saving up the freebies for family

Bharti recalled her shooting days and shared that she used to store everything she received when she competed as a shooter. “We used to get free food from the government. I also got ₹15 per day. They used to give us three coupons of ₹5 each and we could get a glass of juice with one coupon. You won’t believe it, I used to have one glass of juice, just to ensure I had the energy to stand there for hours and practice rifle shooting. The rest, I would save. At the end of the month, I used to get fruits and juices in exchange for those coupons and take them home. I could hardly swallow that one glass of juice, daily. It felt like Diwali, the fruits would be all placed and everyone circled around waiting for one piece of fruit,” she revealed. (Pic: Instagram)

Not having a photograph of her father at home

Bharti opened up about losing her father when she was too young and not having felt emotions about him. She shared that she didn’t know the love of a man for her until she got married. The actress shared, “In my life, I only have my mother. I never met my father. I was two when he passed away. There is not even one photo of him in the house and I don’t let them put any either. My sister and brother have experienced the love of a father. I didn’t even get to see the love of my brother because everyone was so busy with their lives and their work. But now, the love I get from my husband, I realise how a man cares for you.” (Pic: Instagram)

Being haunted by the noise of sewing machines

She shared the heart-wrenching details about the kind of days she and her family have lived through. Bharti shared about how she has lived around the constant noise of sewing machines and it still haunts her when she is in the costume room. She also opened up about not having enough to eat a proper meal everyday and more “I have lived in that noise for 21 years. I don’t want to ever go back there. I don’t have very big dreams but I keep praying to God that I am able to sustain what I have. We have eaten namak and roti (salt and roti) but now we have dal, sabzi and roti. I just hope my family always has at least dal to eat. I will never want to face the situation or have my family go through that,” the comedian said. (Pic: Instagram)

Not wanting to go home to face the extremities

During her college days, Bharti avoided going home because she didn’t want to face poverty. She shared that she would stay at college to avoid the conditions and said, “Ghar jaane ka mann nahi karta tha (I didn’t feel like going home). I would stay in college with my friends, and eat at the hostel. I knew once I go back, I would have to face poverty. Live in that dim light.” (Pic: Instagram)

Being inappropriately touched by show coordinators in the initial days

Bharti also opened up about being inappropriately touched by show coordinators during her initial days in the industry. Sharing about the incident she said that it was because of her unawareness and lack of confidence that she didn’t speak up. “The coordinators (of shows) misbehaved sometimes. They would rub their hands on the back. I would know it’s not a good feeling, but then I would think that he’s like my uncle, he can’t be bad. Maybe I am wrong and he is right. So, I thought this doesn’t feel right. I had no understanding. I have the confidence to fight now, for my body, for my honour. I can now say 'what is the matter, what are you looking at, go out we are changing now'. I can speak up now, but I had no courage back then,” she expressed. (Pic: Instagram)

On men misbehaving with her mother

Bharti shared about the disturbing incidents when her mother faced unpleasant behaviour of men. She shared that her mother was only 24-year-old when she faced the miserable behaviour of men. “I have seen how the shopkeepers used to come home to demand payback of their loans. They would hold my mother's hands. I did not understand then that they were misbehaving with her. They used to hold her hands, someone even put a hand on her shoulders once. She said 'aren't you ashamed, I have kids, my husband is no more and this is how you behave?'” she revealed. (Pic: Instagram)

On hiding her relationship with Haarsh for 11 years

On a light-hearted note, Bharti got candid about her love life and shared that she had kept her relationship with now husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa a secret for 11 years before marriage. She shared that nobody including Maniesh and Kapil Sharma too were unaware about her dating Haarsh. She said that she was too shy to share about it because of the respect she has for them whom she considers her brothers. “I have a feeling of respect for my brother's respect. I feel strange. I neither told Kapil nor Manish, I am not at all like I am in Mumbai and I have a boyfriend, I am going to marry him, we are going to the Maldives. I had no courage to say all this. Even today, if I post photos with my husband on social media, I feel strange in front of the family. I didn't tell both of them,” she said. (Pic: Instagram)
