Former X Factor star Danyl Johnson defends Katie Waissel

After experiencing backlash from X Factor fans last year, Danyl Johnson has made it his duty to defend Katie Waissel.

The dance teacher has told fans to back off, saying: ‘I wish that everyone would lay off her.’ Katie has become the unpopular contestant during this series after the 24-year-old was chosen to go through to the live finals over Gamu Nhengu.

And likewise, Danyl faced taunts when TV fans branded him as arrogant in last year’s show and felt he was bullied. Former X Factor winner Joe McElderry has also pleaded for Katie to be given a chance.

He said: ‘Katie’s gone from being a receptionist to people calling her names. It’s like ‘God, give her a chance, you know’. ‘It’s fair enough everybody having an opinion but just give them a chance before you knock them down.’

Despite the stars’ efforts to stop Katie being bullied by fans, bookmakers have still predicted that Waissel will be booted off the show this weekend.

Default Matt Cardle's former band climb the charts thanks to X Factor

Matt Cardle's ex band Seven Summers climb charts thanks to X Factor

Matt Cardle’s alternative rock band from Es***, Seven Summers, has been climbing the charts since the singer’s success on X Factor.

The band’s self-titled album has reached number 26 on Amazon’s album download chart.

They might not have a record deal and have lost their lead singer to the ITV1 reality show, but Alex Baker, drummer, Jon Holland, bassist, and Neillo, guitarist, seem to be doing fine without Cardle. Painter and decorator-turned X Factor contestant Cardle was originally the voice of Seven Summers and played the acoustic guitar before joining the reality show.

The band’s debut album was released on 22 January 2010, which they followed with a new single Picture of You. Seven Summers lists their sound on Myspace as Rock, pop, urban and have folk influences. Despite leaving the band, Matt said: ‘If they are doing well and benefiting from this then I’m happy for them’.

Matt is rated by bookmakers as one of the favourites to win X Factor this year.

X Factor's Konnie Huq models recycled Metro dress

Xtra Factor host Konnie Huq has become the latest woman to find herself in the papers in an unusual way, showing off a flowing dress crafted from recycled Metros.

When the wind blows: Konnie Huq recreates the Monroe pose in an outfit made of Metros, left. Right: Kim Huggett puts together the dress and Huq gets the final touches (Picture: MMP/PA)

A similar frock was worn at a fashion show by interior designer Nina Campbell, playing Snow White’s wicked stepmother on stage.
Huq’s appearance has a different inspiration – Marilyn Monroe’s pose in The Seven Year Itch.

The outfit was made in three weeks by Kim Huggett, whose friends kept hold of their Metros to help her. Huq donned it to mark her new role as ambassador for energy company npower’s Climate Cops SOS, a search for the country’s most ecofriendly schoolchildren.

‘Young people can be really innovative about solving green issues in their area,’ she said. Ten schools have reached the Climate Cops SOS final, each getting £1,000 and sending pupils to a London Zoo workshop with Huq.

Default Mary Byrne in Tesco controversy over X Factor 'fixing'

Mary Byrne has her home country of Ireland and Tescos backing her to win The X Factor but the keen support has fuelled fixing allegations.

The 50-year-old singer, who works at a Dublin branch of Tesco, has been receiving promotion from the supermarket chain. The company apparently emailed 300,000 Tesco staff, asking them to vote for her, and an advert appeared on Ireland’s TV3 over the weekend with the message: ‘We’re behind Mary’, Heatworld reported.

X Factor bosses haven’t commented on the situation but a spokesperson for Tesco said: ‘We are fully supportive of Mary and so are her friends and colleagues at Tesco, but as to how anyone votes, that is up to them.’ The advertising could be deemed as giving Mary an unfair advantage but after her amazing performance on Saturday night, we’re sure she’ll have many supporters with or without Tesco’s help.

Default X Factor: Diva Fever feud sparks meltdown for Simon Cowell's groups

X Factor: Diva Fever feud sparks meltdown for Simon Cowell's groups

Simon Cowell’s groups category has gone into meltdown ahead of tomorrow night’s X Factor live show – after a feud erupted between his gimmick act Diva Fever.

Argument: Diva Fever

Singers Craig Saggers and Joe Al-Smadi fell out over their lyrics in rehearsal yesterday, with both wanting to take the lead role.

A source says: ‘Diva Fever have been arguing throughout the day on which lines each of them gets to sing of this week’s song. It’s not ideal with just 48 hours to go.’

The spat provides a headache for Cowell as the judges bid to stop backstage hissy fits spilling over on to TV screens.

Cowell watched quietly, and probably smugly, as Cheryl’s girls group imploded last week and now it is starting to happen to his own camp. Last week, Cheryl’s chances of a third victory were left hanging by a thread after 17-year-old Cher Lloyd admitted having a ‘meltdown’ over her outfit moments before singing. Cheryl’s other star, Katie Waissel, then threatened to quit over the ‘Gamu-gate’ backlash.

It’s not all plain sailing in Louis Walsh’s ‘overs’ camp, either. His quirky Scottish singer, Storm, wants to dye his hair green after stunning the judges with pink hair on his debut.

Meanwhile, the first romance at the singers’ home could be brewing – and it’s not a likely one.

Sources say Louis’s act, retired PE teacher Wagner Carrilho, has the hots for bookies’ favourite Mary Byrne, 50. ‘Wagner has really taken a shine to Mary,’ says my spy. ‘He’s asked her out on a date.’

Elsewhere, Cheryl’s act, Rebecca Ferguson, is transforming from wallflower to style queen. The 24-year-old mum of two ‘has been approached to pose for several major magazines’, the insider says

Default Cheryl Cole to talk of Ashley marriage misery and Gamu controversy on Piers Morgan’s

Cheryl Cole to talk of Ashley marriage misery and Gamu controversy on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories?

X Factor judge Cheryl Cole is reportedly set to reveal all on Piers Morgan's Life Stories.

Chezza has barely been out of the headlines in the past year following her split from Ashley Cole, rumours that she had found love with Derek Hough, her battle with malaria, and, most recently, the controversy surrounding her X Factor category.
Up until now she has remained tight-lipped about her personal life, but she could be set to tell all in an hour-long interview with Piers.
The grilling could give Cheryl the perfect opportunity to have her say on Gamu-gate, which led to a very public backlash against the star, after she opted not to put talented 18-year-old Gamu Nhengu through to the X Factor live shows.

A source told the Daily Star: 'Piers has been courting Cheryl for months but she's always put him off as she's not comfortable revealing too many private details on camera.
'However, with the dreadful battering she's been taking over the last few weeks, she's had a change of mind.'
The insider added that 'nothing will be off limits'.
Cheryl's fellow X Factor judges Dannii Minogue and Simon Cowell have both been grilled by Piers on the show.
Piers Morgan's Life Stories with Cheryl will air on October 23rd at 10pm on ITV1.
