Default PSN Down: Sony PS4 and PS Vita players facing issues while launching games

It looks like the PlayStation Network (PSN) is currently down for PS4 and PS Vita players across the world. According to the information available online, the outage is focused in the United States and Japan. However, outage reports span multiple countries across the globe. In addition to third-party service monitor websites, Sony has also updated its official PlayStation status website with details regarding the issues. As per the information available, the outage started about five hours back. Sony issued its last update about 3.5 hours back regarding the issues. Let’s check out the details about the service outage below.

PSN down: PS4 players facing problems

According to the official PSN Network Service Status page, services related to “Gaming and Social” are currently “experiencing issues”. The PSN “Account Management” and “PlayStation Store” seem to be working without any problems. Digging deeper, the status page indicates that PS4 and PS Vita players may be facing problems while launching games. The issue extends to launching other applications and online features on both the consoles. Sony added that its “engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible”. The company did not reveal any possible timeline of fixing the issues. It will likely share details behind the outage after an investigation.

Other reports also outlined issues while joining PSN parties or chat sessions. Taking a look at the third-party service DownDetector, it looks like PSN servers are coming back online. It is possible that some regions are still facing issues with the service. One can likely restart their console and check their internet connection to double-check service status.

In addition to the outage, the status page also acknowledged “slower or delayed game downloads”.
