Default 2008 Flop Celeb

Balaji Telefilms is still the number one and amongst the very few production houses whose balance sheet shows a profit. However, no longer do any of Ekta's soaps occupy top spot or even figure in the top bracket. 2008 witnessed something that one never envisaged. Ekta's longest running soaps Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ghar Ki were pulled off air. Balaji's foray into reality shows didn't yield any dividends with both Bollywood Ka Ticket Kaun Jeetaga and Kabhi Kabhi Pyaar, Kabhi Kabhi Yaar failing to amuse the viewers. The biggest disappointment though will have to be the failure of her mythological extravaganza Kahaani Hamaraay Mahaabhaarat Ki.

It will be too na´ve to write Ekta off completely but the signs are ominous. Unless she adheres to the changing taste of viewers, it won't be long before the viewers shut door on her shows completely.

Television has no superstars. It's the TRP that rules the roost. This was exemplified by Smriti Iraani's unsuccessful return to Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Smriti-Ekta reunion was tipped as the mother of all patch-ups. However, the viewers were least bothered about this reconciliation. All they wanted was a good show. That's something which they didn't find upon her return i.e. if one goes by the declining TRPs.
Ever since she's taken to production, life has been tough for Smriti. Virrudh, Thoda Hai Thode Ki Zaroorat Hai, Mere Apne and now Waaris. One by one all her shows went kaput. What make matters worse for her is that she's not proving to be too popular with the channels. In the coming year, Smriti will act and produce a sitcom for SAB. Will this show bring a turnaround in her fortunes? Oh! one wouldn't like to wager on that.
