Fearing attacks by pro-Telangana groups, the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council on Saturday (February 13) shifted all the matches of the third edition out of Hyderabad. The matches have now been shifted to Nagpur and Mumbai.
Earlier, four matches were moved out of Hyderabad, including the opening match which was to star defending champions Deccan Chargers. Prior to this move, Andhra Pradesh Sports Minister K Venkata Reddy had expressed displeasure over the IPL’s decision to shift matches from Hyderabad. He had earlier said, “We have requested Deccan Chargers not to play in the IPL, if the inaugural match and the remaining four matches are shifted out of Hyderabad. Despite the police’s assurance that full security will be provided at the venues and to the players, it is unfair that the matches have been shifted. The Andhra cricketer lovers should not be denied of cricket matches.” |

![]() The Indian Premier League has decided to shift all matches out of Hyderabad, home ground of the Deccan Chargers, due to political unrest over the Telangana region. The Andhra Pradesh capital was scheduled to host five matches, excluding the tournament opener on March 12, but the organizers have decided to move out. IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi announced on his Twitter account the change in venue. Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium will host tournament opener between Deccan Chargers and Kolkata Knight Riders on March 12. Nagpur will host the next three matches, scheduled for March 19, 21 and 28. The remaining matches scheduled for April 5, 10 and 21 will be played at DY Patil Stadium. Earlier, Andhra Pradesh sports minister had asked the Deccan Chargers to boycott the T20 tournament if it moved out. |

![]() ![]() Mumbai: The governing council of Indian Premier League on Saturday imposed a one-year ban on Ravindra Jadeja because he did not renew his contract with Rajasthan Royals. Jadeja will not be able to play in the third edition of IPL beginning March 12. "The ban was on account of Ravindra Jadeja not signing the renewal contract with the Rajasthan Royals and attempting instead to negotiate a larger financial contract with some of the other IPL franchises, thus resulting in a serious non-adherence to the IPL player guidelines," IPL said in a statement. The statement said it was a "unanimous decision taken by the IPL governing council and on instructions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president. Ravindra Jadeja will not be allowed to play for any IPL team for the next one year." Clarifying the decision, IPL Chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi said the decision was taken after taking into account Jadeja's representation to the BCCI president and a further representation by the Rajasthan Royals. "The player guidelines laid out by the governing council of the IPL are sacrosanct and all players will need to strictly adhere to the same. We will not tolerate any player playing games or blackmailing any teams or the IPL/BCCI in any manner." Jadeja played for Rajasthan Royals in the first two seasons of the IPL but has not subsequently found a place in any franchise. He signed with Rajasthan Royals in 2008 as an under-19 player. The other U-19 players signed two-year contracts last year, but Jadeja signed a one-year contract. The Royals did not name him in the squad this year. |
