South vs Bollywood
Pre 2015, South and Bollywood were seen as separate industries. They still are, but in 2015 something happened which brought Bollywood fans closer to South films and stars like never before. We are talking about S.S Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Beginning. Thanks to the film, South actors were able to cross regional barriers and have a pan-India appeal. More people started knowing them and their work. Many of these have now become household names. So it is no surprise that some of these mainstream stars are also earning more than their Bollywood counterparts. So here’s a comparisons of South stars vs Bollywood stars earnings as per Forbes’ 2019 Celebrity 100 list, which is also right before covid 19 hit the world and brought it to a standstill.

Rajinikanth (Rs 100 crore) vs Aamir Khan (Rs 85 crore)
Rajinikanth is the highest-paid South actor. In 2019, the actor earned a whopping Rs 100 crore from S Shankar’s 2.0, which was made on a budget of Rs 500 crore. The other film that helped his earnings was Karthik Subbaraj's Petta. He outdid Aamir Khan who made Rs 85 crore. His film Thugs of Hindustan had bombed at the box office. The actor will next be seen in Laal Singh Chadha.

Mohanlal (Rs 64.5 crore) vs Hrithik Roshan (Rs Rs 58.73)
Mohanlal is perhaps the biggest Malayalam star. His film Lucifer was a huge hit and contributed majorly to his Rs 64.5 crore earning. On the other hand, Hrithik Roshan was a part of War along with Tiger Shroff. The film was the highest grossing Hindi film of 2019.

Prabhas (Rs 50 crore) vs Ayushmann Khurrana (Rs 30.5 crore)
Baahubali star Prabhas is perhaps the most popular South star in India. People are excited to see his films and maybe that’s why Saaho, which was panned by most critics, still managed to earn a whopping Rs 130 crore on its opening day. Meanwhile, Ayushmann Khurrana, who seems to be the new-age hero everyone wanted, was seen in Dream Girl and Shubh Mangal Zyaada Savdhaan, which were runaway hits.

Vijay (Rs 30 crore) vs Shahid Kapoor (Rs 12.75 crore)
Thalapathy Vijay’s 2019 film Bigil earned a staggering Rs 300 crore worldwide. It was the main reason for his earning that year. On the other hand, Shahid Kapoor was seen in the very successful Kabir Singh and the multi-starrer, Padmaavat. Kabir Singh ended up being the third-highest grossing Indian film after War and Saaho.
