Default WikiLeaks - OnePlus 9 Pro Is Not A Repair-Friendly Phone

Teardown Reveals OnePlus 9 Pro Is Not A Repair-Friendly Phone: A Look at The Internal Machinery

iFixit gives the OnePlus 9 Pro a reparability score of four out of 10, with 10 being the easiest to repair. It is identical to what was received by the OnePlus 8 Pro last year.

The newly launched OnePlus 9 Pro is an impressive Android device on paper with its 120Hz AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, and new camera system co-developed by Swedish camera maker Hasselblad. The phone went on the first sale in India earlier this week but was also quickly sold out. Now, iFixit has released a new video showcasing the inside of the smartphone. The four-minute teardown video shows the dual-cell battery, 5G antennas, and more. However, it appears that despite all the eye-catching features, OnePlus did not make the phone a repair friendly device. Here's why: https://www.wikinewforum.com/showthread.php?t=415323
The iFixit team begins by removing the back panel of the OnePlus 9 Pro. The team claims that the panel is glued firmly near the camera bump. It is likely because the motherboard and the high-tech camera sensors are present around the area. A strong adhesive would allow no openings near the edges to further prevent moisture from seeping in. (Image: YouTube / iFixit)
The motherboard is attached to the body with several screws and cables. It also hard to remove without disassembling the battery on the OnePlus 9 Pro first. (Image: YouTube / iFixit)

We finally get to see the dual-cell 4,500mAh battery that supports 65W fast charging. iFixit claims that the battery on the OnePlus 9 Pro is relatively easier to remove, unlike other flagships that use a very strong adhesive. (Image: YouTube / iFixit)

After removing the battery, we get a closer look at the quad-camera system at the back. To recall, the OnePlus 9 Pro a 48-megapixel primary camera with OIS support and f/1.8 aperture, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture, an 8-megapixel telephoto shooter with f/2.4 aperture, and a 2-megapixel monochrome camera. The teardown video gives the OnePlus 9 Pro a reparability score of four out of 10, with 10 being the easiest to repair. It is identical to what was received by the OnePlus 8 Pro last year. Notably, the new Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is also very difficult to repair, as claimed by the company earlier. iFixit had given it a score of three out of ten. (Image: YouTube / iFixit)
