An executive pointed out in the report that various factors have contributed to this trend. These include the rise in foreign residents in major cities, changes in consumer tastes towards lighter-alcohol spirits enjoyed casually over a meal, and the discontent felt by women and older folks about the usual experience of buying from traditional liquor shops.
Reacting on online home deliveries of liquor, Dinker Vashisht, vice-president, corporate affairs at Swiggy said, online platforms ensure thorough record-keeping of transactions, verification of customer age, and adherence to limitations. Furthermore, he emphasized that the company’s digital systems are designed to respect regulative and excise rules, promising their compliance with set timelines, dry days, and local delivery regulations.
Reacting to the project, pub owners stated that it will enhance consumer convenience. “By enabling online home deliveries of liquor, states can enhance consumer convenience, drive economic growth, and align with global trends while ensuring responsible and regulated alcohol distribution,” Economic Times quoted Rahul Singh, chief executive of pub chain The Beer Café as saying.
