Azim Premji net worth: While the conversation about India’s richest billionaires ordinarily revolves around the big three — Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, and Ratan Tata– one name which has recently started making waves is Wipro Limited founder Azim Premji, whose wealth has witnessed a mind-bending surge of a whopping 2200 percent in the financial year 2023-24.

According to a Business Standard report, Azim Premji earned around Rs 9,100 crore from dividends and share buybacks, about 22 times from his year’s earning which were pegged at Rs 400 crore. Owing to this exponential increase in profits, Premji has jumped second on the list of billionaires who earned the most during the 2023-24 financial year, 25 places higher than his previous year’s number 27 position.

Currently, his net worth is pegged at Rs 1,200 crore, but this could all change if the reported earnings are correct.

As per the Business Standard report, Tata Sons, the holding company of the India’s largest business house Tata Group, remains the unquestioned king as far as profits are concerned. The Tata Sons earned a stunning Rs 36,500 crore from dividends and share buybacks, which is 7.5 percent this financial year, 7.5 percent more than the conglomerate’s 2022-23 earning which were pegged at Rs 27,800 crore.

Notably, Tata Consultancy Services, the country’s largest IT company and second only to Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries in terms of market cap, was the highest earner for Tata Sons which has a 71.74 percent stake in TCS.
  • Wipro’s Azim Premji is second on the list with estimated earning of Rs 9,100 crore from dividends and share buybacks.
  • HCL owner Shiv Nadar family is third on the list of earning, with an estimated family income of around Rs 8,600 crore, which is 8.3 percent more than last year.
  • At number four, Vedanta’s Anil Agarwal is reported to have earned around Rs 6,799 crore in this financial year, a massive drop of 73.8 percent from his 2022-23 earnings, thus slipping from his number two spot in the list.
  • Infosys promoters Narayan Murthy, Nandan Nilekani, S Gopalakrishnan, Dinesh K and SD Shibulal are ranked number on the list with almost 100 percent increase in earnings at Rs 3,745.3 crore, while Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani slipped from 4th to 6th position with Rs 3,322.8 crore in earning in 2023-24.
  • Next on the list is Rahul Bajaj of Bajaj Auto whose earnings stood at Rs 1,911.2 crore.
