Default Shaan's 2021 Controversy statement on reality show

Shaan: Music reality shows are a platform to learn and not earn

Singer and musician Shaan, who is currently seen on the music reality show, Indian Pro Music League, feels it is important to adapt to newer trends and technology. The singer who has some really soulful songs like Chand Sifarish (Fanaa), Jab Se Tere Naina (Saawariya), Char Kadam (PK) to his credit, feels that one needs to get over the past and look forward in the future. He said, "With social media and online platforms for musicians, singers have got a chance to give their best. It’s been a good journey so far and a great way to connect with listeners directly. I’m publishing my songs myself; and enjoy the process. If there are opportunities from music companies, then I sing those songs, too. But, today the platform is huge for newcomers."
A few years back, the singer had commented on how children were exploited in music reality shows and they needed to focus on studies and enjoy their childhood. Ask him about this and he said, "Music reality shows are a great platform for young talent and if they last for a stipulated period of time, it is worth the hard work. I was not commenting on how music reality shows are exploiting them, I was sharing my views on children participating in music reality show throughout the year. So, when a child participates in a reality show, he should be counselled well by the parents about competition, focus on studies and the kind of time they should dedicate to it. If it stretches over a long period of time, he is working hard in his childhood years. He or she needs to be in school and enjoy his life. Young talent get good opportunities to perform in music reality shows but they should all understand that these shows are a platform to learn and not earn."

In one of the episodes of Indian Pro Music League, Shaan gave a power-packed performance with the title song of Om Shanti Om. Ask him if he is being choosy about singing for Bollywood films and he said, "I feel work has to be of good quality. For almost a decade I was so busy and had many chartbusters to my credit. I used to sing three songs in a day on three different sets. Currently, I am busy singing my own songs along with film songs. It is a cycle and I believe that one has to reinvent oneself and believe in doing quality work."
