CBSE Board Grading System: CBSE Board students are given grades instead of marks, and this grading system applies to both Classes 10 and 12. In the CBSE Board, these grades have specific meanings and corresponding mark ranges.

What Is CBSE Grading System?
CBSE students are given grades which ranges from A1 to E and the performance of these students are evaluated as per these grades.

CBSE Board Grading System
A1: This grade is given to those who are in the top 1/8th of their batch.

Example: If 1000 students pass, then the top 125 can get A1.
D1 and passing criteria: To pass, it is mandatory for students to secure at least 33 percentage marks (D1 grade) in each subject.
In some subjects (such as science) in class 12, the marks should be 33% separately in theory and practical.
D2 and E: D2 means that the student is eligible for CBSE compartment exam (if he fails in 1-2 subjects). E means that he has failed. Now the student will have to appear for the exam again next year.

What is CBSE CGPA? (in class 10)
The full form of CGPA is Cumulative Grade Point Average. CGPA is the average of grade points of all subjects.
Calculation: Grade points of all 5 core subjects are added and the total is divided by 5.
Example:
Hindi: A2 (9), English: B1 (8), Maths: A1 (10), Science: B2 (7), Social Science: A2 (9)
Total grade points = 9 + 8 + 10 + 7 + 9 = 43
CGPA = 43 ÷ 5 = 8.6

CBSE 12th Grading System
CGPA is used less in CBSE Class 12. The main focus is on marks and percentages. But grades are also written in the mark sheet.
If a student takes the exam in 6 subjects, then the percentage of the best 5 subjects is calculated.

Key features of CBSE grading system
Moderation: Notably, if the exam is difficult, the Board can adjust the marks so that the grades are not affected.
Practical And Theory: In subjects like science and computer, marks of practical (20-30 marks) and theory (70-80 marks) are added separately. The grade is based on the total marks.
Relative grading: A1 and A2 grades are based on the students’ performance across the country, not just a fixed mark limit.
DigiLocker: In 2025, the outcome will be accessible on DigiLocker as a digital marksheet, displaying both grades and scores.
