The Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj is a one-of-its-kind spiritual and cultural trip. As hectic event with little to find back up hotels offering comfort/luxury with the scale of happening but relatively easy to find.
![]() 1. Budget but Beautiful - Ashrams and Guesthouses Ashrams and guesthouses are the most exotic accommodations available close to the Kumbh Mela sites. They are real and tranquil, with minimal facilities and calm. But don't let the simplicity fool you they can look quite sumptuous due to their religious nature and serenity. When I went to the Kumbh Mela, staying in a clean ashram was the right price-point and convenience for me. There were the luscious green spaces, yoga sessions, and simple but delicious vegetarian cuisine a real respite from the crowds. Comfortable Hotel Stay - Price starts from INR 700 1000 per night. Service: Vacuumed rooms, meditation rooms, yoga and group dinners. Why Is It A Special Place - Spiritual feel and serene vibe in the midst of the Mela crowd. 2. Riverfront Luxury at Budget Prices You can find riverfront accommodation if you need to be close to the sacred riverbank without burning your pocket book. In the Ganges-front Hotels are inexpensive places to stay which have an impressive sight of the river, thus the tranquility. I stayed in a riverside guesthouse near Prayagraj during the Kumbh and woke up to a breathtaking riverside view every morning. The room was bare but warm, the atmosphere was divine. And because I was so close to the river, I had time to take an early morning dip in the sacred waters you just cannot miss that when at the Kumbh Mela. Budget Accommodation - The night rates start at INR 800 1500 per night. Services: plain rooms, great river view, close to ghats. What is special - Getting to witness the calm morning prayers at the river, without any interference to the sacred waters. 3. Boutique Hotels with a Twist Without having to pay the price" then these are the places for you. They're great for people looking for modern convenience with a local flavor. I had an absolute blast at one such small boutique hotel next to the Kumbh Mela. It had small rooms and they were elegantly decorated, the staff was helpful and it felt quiet and relaxing. A boutique hotel tends to do extra things when it comes to decoration and service. They don't have the scale of large hotel chains but a lot of character. Think of them as your home away from home after a day of mela work. Stay - Price of accommodation is INR 1500 3500/night. The Facilities - Up to date facilities, local d cor, great customer service. 4. Homestays for a Local Experience You want something more local, more personal and homestays are the ideal solution. My Kumbh Mela visit, I was with a local family in Allahabad and it was unforgettable. Homemade dishes to conversational understanding of the festival, it was like being in the culture of the place. Homestays aren't only affordable but they also offer a close proximity with the people of the place. You'll learn more about the city, the festival and its inhabitants than if you stayed in a regular hotel. Cheap Place to Stay - Prices start from INR 1000 2000 a night. Facilities - Cozy rooms, home-cooked meals, and a very family feel. Why we love it - Personalized services and true homely hospitality. 5. Tent Stays - The Glamping Experience If you're looking for a different experience where you get to spend some time outdoors while feeling luxurious, go glamping or tent camping. There are camps and fancy tents that are established for those who wish to get a good night's sleep close to the action during the Maha Kumbh Mela. The tents have decent beds, air conditioning (in some), and en-suite bathrooms, the comforts of a hotel and the intimacy of camping. I stayed for a night in a well-pampered luxury tent at the Kumbh Mela and it was a pleasant blend of comfort and thrills. I will never forget waking up to the sound of the river and the prayers in the distance, from the warmth of my tent in the early morning. Cheap Stay - The rate starts from INR 2000 5000 per night as per the facilities. Facilities - Good beds, attached bathrooms, air conditioning and available at all times. Why is it special - Experience of staying in a luxurious tent, right beside nature. 6. Mid-Range Hotels with a Twist of Luxury A basic hotel, but not more than adequate luxuries, is all you need from time to time. The middle-class hotels in and around the Kumbh Mela sites are excellent value for money, they are fully equipped and they have great service. I stayed at a mid-range hotel close to the Mela site and was surprised by how well kept the room was fresh, small and equipped with all amenities. There's typically a little extra feature in these hotels such as a spa, on-site restaurants, or even a little swimming pool, so they're a bit of luxury without being excessive. Cheap Hotels - Prices start from INR 2500-4000/- per night. Facilities: Large rooms, room service, in-house dining, and sometimes spas or pools. What it is is between cheap and high-end with excellent service and comfort. Conclusion If going to Maha Kumbh Mela is a once in a lifetime experience, then having the right place to stay makes the visit even more memorable. Either a tranquil ashram, a cozy boutique hotel or a tent there are plenty of cheap places that will make your visit feel like a luxurious one. These all provide different types of accommodation so you are not wasting time in any one of them and soak in the spiritual atmosphere of Kumbh Mela. But bag your suitcases and set out for an experience not to be forgotten. Similar Threads:
