TOP 10 illnesses that you could be suffering without knowing it
Early diagnosis is the key to tackling many chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. However, there are certain conditions that are hard to diagnose in the initial stages as they do not display any symptoms until it’s too late. Even some people who are infected with the novel coronavirus, the virus the causes COVID-19 pandemic, are asymptomatic, meaning they don’t exhibit any symptoms for the virus. 1 in 5 COVID-19 cases are estimated to be asymptomatic but they are still contagious. Most types of cancers are also asymptomatic in their early stages. Late detection is believed to be the cause of majority of cancer deaths in India. Below are 5 illnesses that you could be suffering without knowing it. Also get to know how these diseases can be detected early.
Hypertension Almost half of all people with high blood pressure do not experience any obvious symptoms. This is the reason why hypertension is often called the “silent ****er.” Pre-hypertension is when your blood pressure is between 120 to 129 mmHg (the systolic, or upper number) and/or 80 to 89 mmHg (the diastolic, or lower number) while full-blown hypertension means your blood pressure is above 140/90 mmHg. High blood pressure can go unnoticed until the heart, arteries, and other organs are already damaged. When left uncontrolled for long, this can lead to heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, eye damage, or heart failure. It is, therefore, important to have your blood pressure checked once a year, even if you don't have any risk factors. Polycystic ovary syndrome PCOS It is a condition where the body higher-than-normal amounts of male hormones (androgens). This hormone imbalance can interfere with ovulation and make it harder for women with the condition to get pregnant. It can also increase the risk of other chronic conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes. As per estimates, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects up to 10 per cent of all women of childbearing age. But it gets missed in almost half of these women because of the difficulty of making a diagnosis. Irregular periods or missed periods is a key sign of PCOS, but women who are taking Pills to avoid pregnancy may miss this sign for years. Other possible signs and symptoms of PCOS include adult acne, facial or body hair, and thinning hair on your head. Lung cancer It’s the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women, making up almost 25 percent of all cancer deaths, according to the American Cancer Society. Unfortunately, lung cancer doesn't typically have symptoms in its early stages. Signs often appear when the disease is very advanced, which leads to higher mortality rates. In later stages of lung cancer, one may experience a dry cough that doesn't go away after 2 or 3 weeks, chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing up blood, persistent tiredness or lack of energy. Research has shown that CT lung scan can reduce deaths from lung cancer by about 20 per cent. Both former and current smoker who are over age 55 are advised to get an annual CT lung scan. Glaucoma It is a leading cause of blindness for people over the age of 60. Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that can damage the optic nerve and lead to a loss of vision. Symptoms of glaucoma are often not obvious until the damage is quite severe. For this reason, glaucoma is called the “silent thief of sight.” As the disease progresses, blind spots develop in your peripheral (side) vision. It’s is advisable to get yearly comprehensive eye exams so that your ophthalmologist, or eye specialist, can detect the disease before you lose vision. Chlamydia This ***ually transmitted infection (STI), caused by bacterium chlamydia trachomatis, can be easily treated with antibiotics. But if left untreated, it can spread to other parts of your body and lead to a host of health problems including infertility. Usually Chlamydia cause few or no signs and symptoms in the early stage. Also, the signs and symptoms, when they occur, are often mild, making them difficult to detect. Common signs and symptoms of Chlamydia include painful urination, ******l discharge in women, discharge from the ***** in men, painful ***ual intercourse in women, bleeding between periods and after *** in women, testicular pain in men, etc. Source https://www.wikinewforum.com/showthread.php?t=415306 Similar Threads:
