IPO Subscription, Listing On Share Market: Key Points To Know Before Investing Hard-Earned Money

New Delhi: Reports of Zomato, and upcoming Paytm and LIC IPOs have grabbed eyeballs. The year of 2021 has witnessed an unprecedented boom of Initial Public Offerings by companies on share market notwithstanding the Covid pandemic impact on the Indian economy overall. Several of them have managed to hit the right note, a few missed the mark. Chemical firms, gaming platforms, insurance, asset management, commercial banking, non-banks, microfinance, housing finance and payment bank players have been filing draft documents with the market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) for public offerings. With this, the IPO pie is set to grow bigger.

IPO Subscription - Mentality Matters
Raj Shamani, Digital Content Creator, Investor and Entrepreneur says 'One thing that I have noticed recently, many people are subscribing to IPOs without any research. There is so much one needs to know before going ahead with a particular IPO. Comprehensive research needs to be in place. Ask yourself things like, what is the stake of the promoter? What are the future plans? How is the company going to use the money? Read the prospectus and understand their business. Know the future trends related to their business. Just because your friend has subscribed that doesn't mean you should too. Don't follow the herd mentality.'

IPO Listing - Long Term Vision
Shashank Udupa, Co - founder, Scenes by Avalon says 'We have recently seen an explosion in IPO listing lately with all the tech startups going public. For a homegrown everyday use tech startup to go public is a very big achievement for our country and the markets are also welcoming these new IPOs with open arms. While we can see that it is easy for famous companies to do well on their IPOs, we must also keep a track on the not so familiar IPOs that are fundamentally strong as they are doing bumper listings as well. While it is common to see more IPOs in a bull market, having a long term vision while investing in IPOs will help every investor.'

IPO Watch - Lucrative For Startups
Ajay Ponna Venkatesh, Co-founder, Scapic says 'The IPO market has realised the potential of startups which are disrupting traditional businesses and garnering large market share. Recent IPOs by Route Mobile, Happiest Minds, CAMs or Burger King have all been oversubscribed many times and debuted with high multiples. There are certain tailwinds which are pushing startups towards IPO for fundraising and to provide investors with a healthy exit. The new norms announced by SEBI such as easier migration to the main board, decreased holding period, and special rights have made IPO more lucrative for startups.'

Initial Public Offering Is Just The Beginning
Rohith Reji, Co - founder and CBO, Neokred says 'In every market or country, IPO is considered as an end goal that companies tend to achieve for their shareholders and investors. But in reality, it is just the beginning. Companies are fuelled by the purpose from going IPO and to achieve more than anticipated.'

IPO Investment
Viraj Sheth, Co- founder and CEO, Monk Entertainment says 'I'm glad that retail investors are getting opportunities through online broking platforms to invest directly in IPOs. Although, I've not been very lucky personally with an allotment, I've had friends who've enjoyed terrific first-day gains through the same. This marks the new beginning of India's primary markets with new IPOs flooding in every week.'
