Indian man who was once earning Rs 100 crore salary package, was later fired by Elon Musk, has not built his new AI Firm.
Parag Agarwal, an IIT Bombay graduate, gained global attention when he was appointed as the CEO of Twitter, just months before the company’s acquisition by Elon Musk in a $44 billion deal. He was hired with a salary package exceeding Rs 100 crore, Agarwal’s base salary was around Rs 8 crore, along with restricted stock units valued at Rs 94 crore. However within a year he was fired within a year of his appointment by Elon Musk. There are various claims behind his firing by Tesla founder, however there is no specific reason officially given by anyone. Parag Agarwal Early Life Journey In India Agarwal, who was born in Ajmer to a well-educated family—his father being a senior official in India’s Department of Atomic Energy and his mother a retired Economics professor. After graduating from IIT Bombay in 2005 with an All India Rank (AIR) of 77, Agarwal completed internships at Microsoft Research and Yahoo before joining Twitter in 2011. Following six years with the company, he became Chief Technology Officer, succeeding Adam Messinger. Elon Musk Fired Parag Agarwal Over Grudges? When Parag Agarwal was fired he was reportedly entitled to severance pay of around Rs 400 crore. However Agarwal did not receive it, after which he and other former Twitter executives sued Elon Musk for over Rs 1,000 crore in severance payments. According to a Hindustan Times report, a book by Bloomberg’s Kurt Wagner, Parag Had denied Elon Musk’s request to block the account which was tracking the location of Tesla Founder’s private jet. The same report claimed that this incident was prior to Elon Musk buying ‘X’ (Formerly known as Twitter). When Musk became the owner of ‘X’, he fired Parag Agarwal and blocked the account which was tracking Billionaires jet. Parag’s New AI Firm Parag is now exploring opportunities in the AI sector. He has already secured significant funding of Rs 249 crore for his new venture. Parag Agarwal’s new startup is focusing on developing software for developers working with large language models. It is similar to the technology behind Open AI’s Chat GPT.
