While 2010 was a year full of achievements, the one enduring image of Indian sport will be the grit and achievement of Saina Nehwal. Not only did she become the first Indian woman shuttler to be a World No.2, she won a string of super series championships and won that all-important Gold medal No. 38 that propelled India to the second place on the medal tally for the first time.

Indian hockey experienced both the highs and lows, both on the field and off it. While the women won the gold medal at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, the men won the Asia Cup in 2003. In 2010, the team celebrated back-to-back wins over arch-rivals Pakistan in men's hockey. India beat them in the World Cup in February, Commonwealth Games in October and the Asian Games in November.
