She said, "Thalaivi I am shooting in two languages, so I will charge for two films, I will not charge for one film," she said. However, Kangana also expressed her will to lower her fee if need be and not let the industry suffer in any way.
She also clarified that the film is not meant for the digital platform directly and won't release there.

Kangana was born on 20 March 1987 in Bhambla, near Manali, which is in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Her dad's name is Amardeep, who is a businessman and contractor, her mom, Asha, is a school-teacher. Bhagysshree was born in a royal, though very conservative Marathi-speaking, Patwardhan family on February 23, 1969. Her father is the former Maharaja of Sangli, whose qualifications include MBA and LLB. Since her childhood she was taught Sanskrit, as her dad recites Slokas.

The latest film to join the bandwagon of films moving straight for a digital release is Kangana Ranaut’s Thalaivi. The biographical film, based on the life of J. Jayalalithaa, late politician and film actress will now not see a theatrical release.

A bunch of big banner films are moving straight for a digital release as due to the lockdown, theatres and cineplexes are shut down. Films are waiting for release after the lockdown is lifted and in such a scenario, it will be difficult for filmmakers to accommodate all films for a theatrical release.

Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana's Gulabo Sitabo and Vidya Balan's Shakuntala Devi were among the first few films to announce their digital release. Soon, more movies have started to consider the OTT platforms to release their films.

Recently, Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer Laxmmi Bomb confirmed it’s digital release and the comedy horror film has been sold for a record-breaking amount of Rs 125 crores to Hotstar. The latest film to join the bandwagon is Kangana Ranaut’s Thalaivi. The biographical film, based on the life of J. Jayalalithaa, late politician and film actress will now not see a theatrical release.

Reportedly, Thalaivi is all set to have a digital release and has been sold to Netflix and Amazon Prime for a whopping amount of Rs 55 Crore.

When asked if she was okay with her film Thalaivi releasing straight on OTT, Kangana told Pinkvilla: “It depends. For example, a film like Thalaivi just can't release on digital because it is such a massive scale film, neither a movie like Manikarnika is a digital space film, but yes films like Panga, Judgementall Hai Kya also cater to that audience. The way the film is made, it is very digital-friendly. They have recovered huge costs through digital itself. So, it depends.”

However, further she maintained: “For Thalaivi, it is a bilingual film. As a matter of fact, the film is sold to both Netflix and Amazon in both Hindi and Tamil for around Rs 55 crore."
