One of the most talked about marriages was that of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai on April 20, 2007. After much speculation concerning their relationship, their engagement was announced on January 14, 2007. The announcement was later confirmed by his father Amitabh Bachchan.

The couple got married according to traditional Hindu rites of the South Indian Bunt community, to which Ash belongs. Token North Indian and Bengali ceremonies were also performed. The wedding took place in a private ceremony at the Bachchan residence Prateeksha in Juhu. Though the wedding was a private affair intended for the Bachchan and Rai families and friends, the involvement of the media turned it into a national extravaganza. Bollywood's King Khan has been married to Gauri Khan for the past 18 years. After the death of his parents, SRK moved to Mumbai in 1991. In that same year, before any of his films were released, he married Gauri Chibber (a Hindu) in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony on 25 October 1991. They have two children, son Aryan (b 1997) and daughter Suhana (2000). According to Shah Rukh, while he strongly believes in Allah, he also values his wife's religion.
