Festival Calendar October with Holidays: List of Fasts, Event Dates and Tithis as Per Hindu Panchang with Subh Muhurat
The month of October will see the celebration of major festivals such as Karwa Chauth, Diwali, Bhai Dooj and Chhath Puja.
September saw celebrations of some of the biggest festivals in India with Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, Durga Puja, Vijayadashami and Dussehra. The festive season in the country continues in the month of October as well with popular festivals such as Diwali, Karwa Chauth and Chhath Puja lined up. India is a land of fun-filled festivals and events. People look forward to the festival dates in advance to plan their holidays accordingly. These festivals give an opportunity to families and friends to come together and join in celebrations. We have compiled a list of fasts (Vrat), event dates (Tithis) in this festival calendar for the month of October including holidays. It is also important to observe festivals as per age-old Hindu Panchang on Shubh Muhurat (auspicious timings).
The month kicks off with the Muslim observance, Day of Ashura falling on October 1, (Sunday). Ashura is the tenth day of Muharram, the second holiest month in the Islamic calendar. On October 2, Padmanabha Dwadashi will be observed. It falls on the 12th of Shukla Paksha (during the waxing phase of moon) in Ashwin month (September – October). We will also be celebrating Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 (Monday) as one of the three national holidays in India.
Pradosh Vrat will be observed on October 3, a popular Hindu Vrat dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to Drik Panchang, Bhauma Pradosh Vrat Shubh muhurat is 17:18 to 19:45. The first week of October will also see other significant Hindu festivals such as Sharad Purnima, Ashwin Purnima, Kojagiri Purnima Puja, Valmiki Jayanti and Meerabai Jayanti.
Karva Chauth falls in the second week of October. A very popular festival in north India, Karva Chauth will be celebrated on October 8 (Sunday). Married women observe sacred Vrat (completely abstain from food and water) for the long life of their husbands. The Vrat is broken till the sighting of the moon. The festival has become enormously famous over the years with the glamorous depiction in the popular culture. It is a hit among ladies as they deck up in traditional attire. According to Drik Panchang, Karwa Chauth Puja Muhurat is 17:13 to 18:27 with the duration of 1 hour 14 minutes. The expected moonrise timings on Karwa Chauth Day is 19:35 pm.
The third week of October witnesses a number of festivals including major Hindu festival, Diwali. The festival of lights, Diwali date is October 19. One of the biggest religious festivals celebrated in Hinduism, the devotees will observe Lakshmi Puja on the day. According to Drik Panchang, Lakshmi Puja Muhurta is 18:37 to 19:35 with duration = 0 Hours 58 mins. The Pradosh Kaal = 17:04 to 19:35 while Vrishabha Kaal = 18:37 to 20:35.

During the dates between October 10 and 20, Rohini Vrat, Kalashtami, Rama Ekadashi, Govatsa Dwadashi, Dhan Teras, Narak Chaturdashi and Gowardhan Puja will be celebrated. On October 21, Bhaiya Dooj, a loving sacred festival of sisters and brothers will be celebrated. Sisters pay for the long life and prosperity of their brothers. Bhaiya Dooj is also known as Bhau Beej and Bhathru Dwithiya.
According to Drik Panchang, Bhai Dooj Tika Muhurat = 12:29 to 14:46 with duration of 2 Hours 16 Mins. The biggest festival celebrated in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, Chhath Puja will be celebrated on October 26. The four-day festival including Nahai, Khai, Kharna and Parna is celebrated in honour of Lord Surya (Sun), the Hindu god of energy and giver of the life-force. These are the primary festivals which will be celebrated in the month of October this year.
