Simulating Payroll
Use
You can simulate payroll for individual employees before performing the regular payroll run for all the employees in your enterprise. This is, for example, a good idea, if you have made complex changes to an employee’s master data, which may lead to far-reaching changes in his or her payroll results. In this way, you recognize sources of errors in time to make corrections before the regular payroll run. You can even simulate payroll for individual employees at any time during the regular payroll process, in order to trace the cause of any errors.

Is it not necessary to simulate payroll for all employees before every regular payroll run. You can also make corrections at any time during the process of the regular payroll run.
Scope of Function
A simulation run corresponds to a regular payroll run with the following restrictions:

• The results of a simulated payroll run are not saved on the data base. You can view and print the results in the payroll log.
• The system does not lock any master data.
• The current payroll period in the payroll control record is not changed.
• The steps Release payroll and Exit payroll do not apply.

2. From the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Payroll ® Payroll ® Payroll ® Simulation in the SAP menu.You access the initial screen of the payroll program. The Test Run (No Update) indicator is set and cannot be changed.
   
3. Enter the necessary data and choose Execute.

Payroll Driver

Definition
Program you use to run payroll.


Structure
For each Payroll country version there is a country-specific payroll driver with the technical name RPCALCx0 or HxxCALC0:

• For programs with the technical name RPCALCx0, the x is replaced with a country indicator, for example, D for Germany, F for France, or X for "Other countries".
• For programs with the technical name HxxCALC0, the xx is replaced with the ISO code of the respective country, for example MX for Mexico, or ID for Indonesia.

The program RPCALCX0 (Payroll driver international) contains no data about tax and social insurance regulations for net remuneration calculation. The other payroll drivers contain this data.


Integration
A relevant country-specific personnel calculation schema, in which personnel caclulation rules and functions are stored, contain the steps that a payroll driver should perform during payroll. All data is stored in internal tables and saved in payroll-relevant files.

Payroll Area for Determining Time Period


Payroll programs process different personnel areas and employee subgroups in different payroll periods. A payroll area groups the employees for whom the payroll is to be run on the same date irrespective of their status (salaried employee, industrial worker).
The program which retrieves data for payroll accounting selects records on the basis of payroll area. The payroll area defines the selection period but not the personnel numbers that are selected.


Use
The following options are available for the "Payroll area", "Payroll period", and "Payroll year" fields:

• Payroll area without period and year
  The payroll area is used to determine the current payroll period from the control record. The payroll period is the period for which payroll is to be run. This value is set as the data and person selection period.

• Payroll area with period and year
  The exact period is determined from the payroll area, period and year entries. This value is set as the data and person selection period.
